A virtual ceremony with Safaricom, audited by PKF — and the platform goes online.

SDGs 6–11 · new areas not covered by the MDGs

The #MyLittleBigThing 2020 awards ceremony — in partnership with Safaricom — took place on 24 September 2020. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the event was re-engineered to accommodate a lot more online engagement, running on Zoom from 9am EAT and broadcast live on Facebook. The keynote was given by Mr Steve Chege, Chief Corporate Officer at Safaricom.

Fifteen contestants pitched to nine judges after successfully passing community immersion and viability webinars. Master of ceremony Larry Asego made sure the event ran smoothly, with online games and interactive SDG sessions for participants. Scoring was audited by PKF East Africa. Chief Judge Austin Nyawara announced the results.

The top three each won a cash prize, Sustainability Essentials for Business by Cambridge University, and one year of mentorship from the #MyLittleBigThing Mentorship Program. All 15 finalists enrolled in the year-long mentorship across Kenya and South Africa.
